Campus-wide career fairs occur every Fall and Spring semester, featuring in-person events organized by industry sectors and virtual fairs that expand access to national employers. Career Fair Success Strategy
Before the Event
- Research participating employers and available positions
- Upload current resume to Handshake for Career Services review
- Prepare concise introduction and thoughtful company questions
- Attend Career Fair Prep Events and Workshops
- Update your LinkedIn profile and privacy settings
- Review recent company updates, product launches, and social media feeds/activity
After the Event
- Send personalized thank-you emails within 24-48 hours
- Connect on LinkedIn with specific references to your conversation
- Schedule informational interviews with contacts made
- Update your calendar with notes and follow-up dates
- Reflect on successful interactions to improve future networking
Day of Event
- Dress professionally (Career Clothing Closet options are available)
- Focus conversations on your key strengths and career interests
- Bring printed resumes and business cards
- Deliver a prepared 30-60 second “elevator pitch” to introduce yourself
- Collect business cards and company materials
- Stay hydrated and take breaks between conversations
Event Mistakes to Avoid
- Resume dumping without meaningful conversation
