Growing Young Leaders Program at Saint James Community Farm

Just Roots Chicago is seeking motivated young adults (ages 18-24) for our Growing Young Leaders (GYL) Program at the Saint James Community Farm in Bronzeville, Chicago!
About the Program
The Growing Young Leaders Program trains the next generation of food justice leaders in southern Cook County while providing summer employment and leadership development opportunities. Since 2022, the program has served 14 youth from Chicago’s southside and south suburbs with 100% of participants reporting progress toward their goals in:
- Sustainable growing knowledge
- Professional and personal skills development
- Leadership confidence
What You’ll Learn
As part of the GYL program, you’ll develop skills in:
- Regenerative agriculture techniques
- Cooking and nutrition
- Financial literacy and money management
- Job readiness and professional development
- Community leadership practices
You’ll also support farm operations that provide thousands of pounds of fresh food to the community each year.
Who Should Apply
- Young adults between 18-24 years old
- Interest in regenerative farming and food justice
- Commitment to community development
- Desire to grow as a leader
South suburban residents (ages 16-18) should watch for the It Takes a Village Community Farm GYL program, with applications opening in April!
