Project Construction Representative
We have a career opportunity for an experienced project construction representative who has previous experience with water/wastewater and/or water resources engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have both the technical background and leadership experience or skills to coordinate effectively with engineering design staff, contractors and owner personnel to successfully observe and report on a broad range of project activities.
The successful candidate will provide construction management, construction inspections, and engineering support for capital and minor facility construction projects. Support includes safety and health program monitoring, pre-construction engineering support, pre-construction superintendent, code and related field construction inspections, field coordination activities, and related construction management administrative support, along with assisting project management staff in management of client relationships. The position includes involvement in strategic initiatives that will continue to drive the growth of the water/wastewater group, not only in middle Tennessee, but nationwide.
Location
This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from any of either or our middle Tennessee locations at Downtown Nashville or Franklin, Tennessee with some travel as necessary but should expect to work predominantly at the project site location.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work under guidance to provide construction management services for moderately complex projects, activities, deliverables, and problems.
- Duties generally include collecting, evaluating and conducting moderately complex construction management analyses, and preparing related reports, disclosures, presentations and recommendations.
- Review any construction contractors’ written project safety and health plan for all assigned construction projects. Prior to starting work on any project phase, review contractors’ analysis of all hazards associated with that phase and manage accordingly.
- Provide solutions to a variety of construction management-related problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Perform frequent and regular documented on-site reviews of the construction contractors’ safety and health program effectiveness, as delegated by the construction project manager.
- Provide field construction oversight and administration of assigned construction projects to ensure the construction contractors’ compliance with requirements in the construction project acquisition documents.
- Provide coordination for construction reviews, RFIs, contractors’ construction submittals, substantiation of contractual requirements, commissioning activities, and related field activities.
- Assist with the review and development of contractual documents for Request for Proposals including Statements of Work, design and construction standards, and contractor selection criteria.
- Review and provide comments to improve construction management group policies and procedures.
- Follow all ESH&Q policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.
- Other construction management support duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Impact You Will Have
- Advanced recognition of the need for construction observations and the development of project activity reporting on a daily basis
- Check and sign off on basic design plans and appropriate implementation in field construction
- Layout drawings for a component and demonstrate an understanding of relationship to the whole design and purpose
- Ability to review design elements/components of a project and coordinate development with other elements and disciplines within the scope of the project
- Demonstrate understanding between specifications, cost estimates and pay applications
What You Will Need
- Relevant Bachelor’s or Technical Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with facilities construction inspections, observations and reporting with water resources, drinking water, and/or wastewater project experience preferred.
- Increasing skills in creativity and judgment in application of engineering and construction
- Increased knowledge of software appropriate for the discipline, showing proficiency in multiple programs specific for this
- General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles.
- General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field.
- Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication
- Ability to collaborate with others in a team environment.
- Experience in Microsoft Suite and project management software, such as ProCore is a plus.
