Collins has an opening for an Entry-Level Engineer in our Chesterton, IN, office. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of design and inspection projects including bridge, waterfront, roadway, and construction temporary works projects and will be mentored by experienced engineers in the office and field. This is a unique chance to be exposed to multiple disciplines within the transportation industry and offers the opportunity to diversify your skill set.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform design and inspection/field work that does not require previous experience.
  • Assist in the completion of inspection and assessment reports.
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare calculation packages and design drawings.
  • Can include limited communication with clients.
  • Instructs draftspersons/technicians on design drawings, data entry, and report preparation.
  • Field work is required, which could include nights and weekends.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Senior or a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
  • An emphasis in structural engineering is preferred.
  • At a minimum coursework should include the following:
    • Structural Analysis
    • Steel Design
    • Concrete Design
  • Previous software experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam, or Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Previous software experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF or other PDF editing software is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
