We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world — together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Looking for a great answer to the question – what did you do this summer? This is it! Through our Summer Internship, you’ll gain the experience, knowledge, and skills to take your career to another level. Throughout this summer program, you’ll enjoy hands-on involvement in some of the ground-breaking initiatives we’ve got going on. In addition to developing technically and professionally, you’ll be able to build a network of friends and contacts while discovering what it’s like to live, work and play in Washington, DC.

As a global leader in advanced mobility solutions, our outstanding team of legal professionals helps us navigate the continually changing legal and regulatory landscape. In our Office of General Counsel, you’ll be part of an organization that collaborates with outside counsel to operate as a global team and deliver world-class legal, tax and audit services to client groups throughout the company.

In this position…

The Ford Motor Company Policy and Office of General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a highly motivated and talented law student to join our team for a summer internship. This internship provides a unique and immersive opportunity to function as a contributing member of a fast-paced, in-house policy and legal organization. As an intern, you will gain unparalleled experience at the intersection of law, policy, and business, helping to address the complex legal needs of a global automotive leader.

A Forward-Thinking Legal Team:

At Ford, our legal team is at the forefront of the intersection of law and policy. We are a strategically focused team, leveraging cutting-edge technology and deep policy and legal experiences to enhance our legal services, policy outcomes and drive efficiency across the company. As a legal policy intern, you will not just observe but actively participate in the transformation of legal practice and policy landscape.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do…

As an intern, you will be deeply integrated into our team, taking ownership of substantive work and contributing to long-term projects. Your responsibilities will include:

Advanced Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth legal research on a variety of complex topics relevant to Ford’s global operations including, but not limited to, global trade policy, supply chain resiliency and global sustainability and ESG compliance. You will use advanced legal research platforms and AI-powered tools to provide actionable insights to our attorneys.

Review and Draft Documents: Take a lead role in drafting and reviewing a wide array of legal and regulatory documents and internal policies. You will have the opportunity to use AI-powered tools to identify risks, ensure compliance, and suggest negotiation points and policy positions.

Project Management and Substantive Support: Take a substantive role in managing key projects and supporting transactional matters, policy development, and regulatory compliance.

Strategic Team Engagement: Actively participate in team meetings, attend and present at briefing sessions, and observe department functions as appropriate. You will have opportunities to network with senior leadership and other professionals across the company.

Qualifications

You’ll have…

  • Pursuing a Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of Law School Education.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Washington, DC for the summer
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Must be available for full time work by September 2028

Even better, you may have…

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and demonstrate automotive and technical comprehension
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough legal research using various databases and resources.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interest in leveraging policy in legal work.
  • Prior experience in a legal setting (e.g., law firm, in-house legal department, judicial clerkship) is preferred but not required.
  • Participation in moot court, mock trial, law review, or other relevant extracurricular activities is a plus.
  • A demonstrated interest in the intersection of law and policy is highly desirable.
  • JD GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we’ve outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
