LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT
The Marine Corps Officer Program is designed to develop strong leadership and management skills, offering both college students and graduates the chance to earn a commission through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia. At OCS, you’ll build leadership abilities that prepare you to adapt to various missions and lead your team effectively.
ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
- Platoon Leaders Class (PLC): For undergraduates (freshmen, sophomores, juniors).
- Officer Candidates Course (OCC): For seniors and graduates.
Both programs assess leadership, physical fitness, mental agility, and moral character. Selection is competitive, based on a board evaluation, and non-committal.
Officer Candidates Course (OCC)
OCC is a commissioning program for undergraduates. Training is conducted over a 10-week course in Quantico, Virginia, focusing on leadership, physical fitness, and decision-making. Depending on your college year, you’ll complete either two six-week sessions or one ten-week session. Successful completion, along with a college degree, leads to a commission as a Marine Corps officer.
OCS TRAINING SCHEDULE
Location: Quantico, Virginia
Seniors and Alumni: One ten-week summer session
Future courses will be determined a later date.
PROGRAM COMMITMENT
Upon graduating college and completing OCS, you will attend The Basic School (TBS) for six months of intensive training. TBS, located in Quantico, Virginia, prepares newly commissioned officers for leadership roles in the Marine Corps through comprehensive instruction in infantry tactics, military planning, and more. All officers begin their careers at TBS, ensuring they are ready to lead Marines in various roles.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Marine officers can pursue careers in various fields to include intelligence, communications, military police, logistics, engineering, financial management, public affairs, aviation, and even law.
When applying for OCS, candidates choose from several contract types:
- Active Ground Contracts: Full-time service in ground-based roles like cyber security, engineering, logistics etc.
- Reserve Contracts: Part-time service in the Marine Corps Reserve, balancing civilian careers with military duties.
- Air Contracts: For aspiring aviators, leading to specialized training as pilots or Naval Flight Officers.
- Law Contracts: For those pursuing a legal career as Judge Advocates (JAs), providing significant litigation experience early in their career, making them strong candidates for roles in the Department of Justice and other federal agencies after service.
WHAT ABOUT PAY?
You are paid approximately $6,700 for a ten-week training session as you are still completing your initial training. The Marine Corps pays for the cost of travel to and from OCS as well as room and board. If you commission as an officer full-time after completion, you can expect a starting salary/regular military compensation of approx. $80,000 and approx. $93,000-$138,000 after 4 years. A few other benefits include medical and dental coverage, a free graduate degree/MBA/law school (with a paid housing stipend for students) with the GI Bill/Yellow Ribbon Program, pension plan retirement system, 401K retirement plan with employer match, VA Home Loan, a security clearance, and many other military/veterans’ benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- U.S. Citizen
- GPA above 2.0 if still in college
- Completion of any undergrad program.
- Education (Must obtain 1 of 3 minimum academic test scores)
- ACT 22 or higher
- SAT (math and critical reading combined) 1000 or higher
- ASVAB 74 or higher
***if you have not taken any of these exams, we are still able to hold an interview with you.
