Position Summary
The Database Intern will support NewRoot’s Evaluation Specialist by enhancing the organization’s current data collection and reporting systems. This may include aspects of data collection, monitoring/evaluating tracking systems and data management with a focus on ensuring data quality and collection efficiency. The internship begins mid-May/early June, and preference will be given to candidates who can commit to at least a one-year term.
Location
This role requires 5-6 hours per week and can be done 95% remotely. Applicants must be residents of Illinois. Regular availability for collaborative meetings during Monday through Friday 10:00am-4:00pm CT is required. An initial onboarding meeting must be completed in person at NewRoot’s Chicago West Loop Office. Travel to NewRoot events and/or partner sites throughout the Chicagoland area will be required during onboarding and may be requested quarterly, if local.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Data + Evaluation Support
- Help with set-up, monitoring, & processing enhancements for NewRoot’s data collection and reporting systems
- Assist in Beta/UAT testing of data collection/database enhancements
- Perform other duties as requested
Required Qualifications
- Commitment to educational equity and restorative practices
- Actively enrolled Data Science, Database Management, Information Systems, or Computer Science undergraduate or graduate student
- Strong proficiency with spreadsheet programs such as MS Excel, Google Sheets
- Familiarity with database management including QCing, auditing and troubleshooting
- Experience with relational databases such as MS Access, Salesforce, Tableau
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently
- Proficiency in, or willingness to quickly learn, Google Office (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Spaces and Google Calendar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SurveyMonkey and FormAssembly
- Experience with SQL or SOQL (Salesforce Object Query Language)
- Experience automating data collection using APIs
- Eligible for course credit for the internship term
