Material Advantage focuses on bringing knowledge of materials science and engineering to the student body of Illinois Institute of Technology through innovative projects centering on different aspects in the field and by providing students with the opportunity to expand their professional network. Projects, including Mug Drop and Bladesmithing provide the students with a chance to learn about MSE while professional conferences and field trips to industrial settings allow the members of Material Advantage to experience both objectives in a professional setting.
We do forge nights, material testing, and similar hands-on activities. We also host casual sessions and project-based events, providing a relaxed yet engaging environment for members to learn, build, and collaborate.
In pursuit of our mission to advance knowledge in materials science and engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Material Advantage envisions a vibrant community where students passionately explore the intricacies of bladesmithing and material science. Our short-term goals include expanding our membership, creating an inclusive environment, and fostering a sense of belonging. We strive to enhance our members’ understanding of material science by organizing workshops, lectures, and hands-on experiences, further enriching the educational landscape. Our vision encompasses the continuous improvement of our facilities, ensuring that they are well-equipped to facilitate cutting-edge research and hands-on projects. We are committed to cultivating an atmosphere where students can unwind, connect, and share their passion for materials science, contributing to a welcoming and collaborative space on campus.
