Poker Club

Academic Fraternities and SororitiesStudent Organizations

The purpose of Illinois Tech Poker Club is to provide students with the opportunity to socialize, learn probability and game theory, and have fun playing poker. The club will host frequent tournaments and casual games, where students can get together, eat, and play poker. The club will also provide materials from which members can delve deep into the theory of the game, from both mathematical and psychological perspectives. We will teach about GTO (Game Theory Optimal) poker strategies, using poker solvers to learn the intricacies of the game.

We believe that poker is a great exercise to train rational decision making, a skill that is useful in every career, and life in general. This club also serves as a way for students to meet others with their same interests, enhancing the Illinois Tech community. We will also be aiming to receive sponsorship from companies located in Chicago, which will open potential careers for IIT students. Furthermore, Poker Club could collaborate with philanthropic organizations at Illinois Tech to host charity tournaments for students and faculty.

A goal as a club would be to join an organization such as the Intercollegiate Poker Association where we would play in a league against other colleges and universities. To further engage our STEM-based community at IIT, we hope to also host an IIT poker bot competition, where engineers and computer scientists can use algorithms and artificial intelligence to create the best artificial poker player. Additionally, the club will seek out guest speakers to address our members on poker and its applications in the real world.
