Let me introduce myself, I am a graduate student in Information Technology and Management at IIT and I am pursuing a double Master’s degree thanks to the agreement between the Technical University of Madrid and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Moreover, I am part of the Yield Engagement and Academic Coaching programs, in addition to being part of the university’s tennis team and volunteering at the Clinical Nutrition Research Center at IIT. Finally, I want to tell you that I am also a professional violinist and high-performance handball player in Spain… In short, your fellow hawk!

As an international student, I have experienced many things during my time at the university and I love to help all kinds of students who come with the same doubts that I came to this wonderful university with.

My name is Angela Petrone, I am a 4^th year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Digital Humanities. I am an international student from Italy, and I have carried over my hobbies and passions — writing and playing the piano — to Illinois Tech. I am the Editor-in-Chief of TechNews, our university’s student-run newspaper. I am also a tutor for Computer Science 100-200 at the Academic Resource Center, and I study piano at Vandercook, the music conservatory located on the Illinois Tech campus. This year I have received a research Fellowship from SoReMo, an Illinois Tech initiative granting funds to STEM multidisciplinary research proposals.

Hey! I’m Sahar and I’m a civil engineering student at IIT and an intern at the Illinois Tollway. I’m a math and civil engineering tutor at the university tutoring center and now, I’m helping the university as a peer mentor. I’m also involved in several entrepreneurship and engineering student organizations like Intinium and Railroad Club. In my free time, I like exploring the nature in Chicago by going to the zoo or Lakefront trail.

Hey there! My name is Nese, which means joy in Turkish. I am a fifth-year Architecture student and a senior scholar of M.A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy at IIT. I am currently serving as a Marketing Assistant in the Office of Campus Life and the Student Director of the American Institute of Architects Illinois Chapter. 

I have been actively involved with organizations in Architecture and Design such as the American Institute of Architecture Student (AIAS) and the National Organizations of Minority Architects (NOMA) since my freshman year. For AIAS, at the national level, I served as the Council of Global Representatives Committee Member (2019-2020) and Committee Chair (2020-2021). At the regional level, which is the IIT Chapter of AIAS, I served as the Events Committee Chair (2019-2020) and the Chapter President (2020-2021). 

On the other hand, I was a part of the Student Design Competition Team of NOMASiit -student chapter of NOMA at IIT- in 2020. As a member of I-NOMA (Illinois Chapter of NOMA) I  have been volunteering in the Project Pipeline initiative as a mentor for the last two years. This summer I interned at Quinn Evans -an architecture firm- in Washington DC, representing NOMA as part of the Noma Foundation Fellowship 2022 Cohort.    

Little (maybe even fun?) facts about me: my favorite color is turquoise, being near/in water makes me happy, I don’t know how to bike but I am good at sailing, I am interested in photography and film. Also…I believe our names influence our personalities, so if you don’t know the meaning of your name already, google it, please :) 

Hello I am Navya Sheth. I am a 4th year undergraduate student majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in Finance. I am an international student from India, specifically Gujarat. I have worked on-campus at the Academic Resource Center as a part-time Computer Science tutor for 2 years, Supplemental Instructor for Computer Science 100-200 courses for 1 year, and an Associate Academic Coach for 6 months now. Hi guys, my name is Bolu and I am a sophomore at Illinois Tech studying Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Business.  

I love to read books of all genres and listen to music, my favourite to listen to right now is group therapy. I also enjoy speaking to people and finding new hobbies through making new friends. Being an international student from Nigeria, I understand how scary the thought of leaving home and starting a whole new chapter in life could be but college at Illinois Tech has been my best experience so far. Hey, what’s up? I’m Chinedu, a second year student here at Illinois Tech majoring in Statistics and minoring in economics. I love playing basketball at Keating sports center on the weekends and biking downtown Chicago. I am a mentor in the school’s Empowerment, Leadership and Mentorship Program which helps incoming students land safely at our college. I am also part of the school’s ethics center team where we have one of the largest codes of ethics collections in the world ranging from big tech companies, workers unions and even the Mafia.

Coming to college for the first time, especially as an international student could be a somewhat unfamiliar, strange and stressful process. Trust me, I was in your shoes not too long ago. Thankfully, I had amazing peer mentors to guide me through the process and even my journey in Illinois tech so far.
