1Make Your Transfer Count
Six moves, in the order that pays off fastest▾
You may have less time on campus than a four-year student — so the smartest move is to start now. These are the highest-impact steps transfer students take to build a career fast, ordered by what pays off soonest.
- 1Meet Career Services in your first term. Do not wait. A coach builds a plan around your actual timeline, which is shorter than a four-year student’s and needs different sequencing.
- 2Land an experience early. An internship, co-op, job simulation, or research role is the single biggest career accelerator, and the one thing employers ask about first.
- 3Translate your past. Prior coursework, jobs, military service, and volunteer work are assets. Section 2 is about learning to frame them the way employers read them.
- 4Build your network on day one. Join a career community, connect with alumni, and get to a career fair in your first semester rather than your last.
- 5Earn Elevate badges. Stack credentials that prove your skills, and complete your Elevate experiences on a timeline that fits the semesters you actually have.
- 6Sharpen your resume and LinkedIn. Book a coach review and use the LinkedIn Index to get recruiter-ready before applications open, not during.
2You Already Have Transferable Skills
Transferring is itself proof of things employers pay for — name them, back them, use them▾
Transferring itself is evidence of skills employers pay for. The work is learning to name them, back each one with a story, and put them on the resume in language a recruiter recognizes.
