Graduate Student Ambassador
Job Description
Graduate Student Ambassadors (GSAs) act as the student representative of Illinois Tech for prospective and admitted graduate students. GSAs resolve student inquiries via email, phone, and in-person, accurately answering questions related to the graduate admission process while representing the university and Office of Graduate Admission in a positive light. GSAs have the opportunity to broaden their professional skill set by strengthening their presentation, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and demonstrating a high level of competence, responsibility, and accountability in the role.
Daily GSA duties include:
- Executing call campaigns and keeping clear, concise notes to support Graduate Admission outreach and recruitment efforts
- Troubleshooting and promptly responding to cases (email inquiries) regarding the application process and Grad Admission events
- Answering phone calls to address prospective and admitted student inquiries and provide accurate information and answers
- Staffing the front desk to assist walk-ins with their admissions questions and issues
- Completing special projects as assigned
- Treating all prospective and student records and information with confidentiality and for work purposes ONLY on an as-needed basis
- Providing support for Graduate Admission’s virtual and in-person events
- Leading campus tours for visitors
- Upkeep and organization of the Graduate Admission office suite and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Applicants should be:
- Consistently punctual and professional, able to arrive to work on time and complete tasks and work obligations during their shift
- Willing to take the initiative to investigate problems independently and find solutions
- Respectful, friendly and outgoing, with critical listening and reasoning skills
- Able to quickly pivot as department priorities shift
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled Illinois Tech graduate student or upper division undergraduate student (Junior or higher) in good academic standing
- General knowledge about the university, campus layout, and campus programs at a high level
- Ability to learn and use Salesforce, Gecko Engage and other software applications
- Spoken AND written fluency in English
- Proficiency in another language is a plus (Mandarin, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, etc.)
- Previous customer service experience is a plus
Schedule information:
- Part-time: minimum 12 hours per week, up to 20 hours per week when classes are in session; possibility for more hours during winter and summer breaks
- Two available shifts: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (with occasional opportunities beyond these hours); must be able to work entire 4-hour shift
- Office Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Pay: $15.80/hour
