Collins has an opening for a Construction Inspection Engineer in our Chicago, IL office.
The Construction Inspector Engineer is an integral part of the Construction Management team and will work under the guidance of the Project Leader (Resident Engineer) and/or Construction Engineer. Responsibilities of the position are to perform inspection of construction activities to document conformance to plans and specifications, sample/test materials, document contract quantities, and ensure high-quality construction for transportation projects. This position will provide the opportunity for growth, where continuing development and participation in professional societies will be encouraged and supported.
Company vehicle will be provided.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities.
- Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
- Assists in the completion of reports.
- Keeps Resident Engineer informed of work load and any daily activities.
- Is active in technical societies.
- Proactively interacts with the contractor to track crew work and equipment on the project.
- Is able to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
- Has limited communication with clients
- Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited four-year university and 0-4 years of construction management experience, or an Associates degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited technical college and 0-9 years of construction management experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and construction management databases/tracking software is required for this role
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) or ability to obtain within one year for degreed engineers
- Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling/testing for aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grading, etc.
- Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways, bridges, coatings, etc.
- Valid driver’s license
