Women’s Center Initiative

Our names are Angelica Madera and Ursula Hersh. We are the current co-presidents of the Female Empowerment Movement, a student organization at IIT committed to creating an equitable and welcoming campus environment for women. One of our largest projects to date has been working to bring a Women’s Center back to IIT.

We have had the pleasure of working with two other student organizations on campus, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Women and Gender Minorities in STEM (WiSTEM), as well as the Dean of Students Office. We are so excited to announce that as of February 17th, the Women’s Center is officially open to the student body!

We envision the Center as a gathering place for organizations on campus to host events and a place for students to go for resources (in particular, resources relating to Title IX, counseling, and student health & wellness) or to just have a quiet place to study and relax. We are also planning events for Women’s History Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (all students will be welcome at those events).

We are continuously seeking student input to ensure that the Center is a beneficial resource. We welcome all feedback and would love to hear about how we can identify tangible goals and solutions. Please feel free to email womenscenter@iit.edu or fem@iit.edu with any questions or suggestions!
